We consider ourselves fortunate to have the privilege of working with such an iconic and heartfelt founder every day — and especially on her 59th birthday. We think this powerful talisman, the Elle Macpherson x Atelier Romy Goddess Necklace— from close friend and master goldsmith Sabine Roemer of Atelier Romy — perfectly pays tribute to our WelleCo goddess. To mark its release, we chat to Sabine about the design process behind this empowering piece.
How did the necklace inspiration come about?
After I went on this journey last year of finding strength within me on how to deal with loosing my mother Elle really stepped in and acted like a beautiful reminder to me to reconnect with my feminine energy and the “trust in myself”.
I wanted to create a “daily reminder” for us all which embodies this feeling of “we are enough and we have everything within us what we need.”
Why turquoise?
Turquoise, a gemstone that has long been prized as a powerful talisman with healing properties also smooths communication between the physical and the spiritual realms, increases inactive psychic abilities, boosts intuition, and brings wisdom, and insights.
Known as the stone of cleansing, turquoise is a natural guard against anything that isn't serving you, your body, or your mind. This bright blue crystal is one of the oldest stones known to humankind, and was used as a talisman by kings, religious leaders, and soldiers.
I really felt this gemstone was perfect for the necklace as Turquoise has a strong connection to the throat chakra and helps to enhance communication and expression. It also aligns all of the chakras and is often used for healing purposes. Turquoise can also help you become more open to love and forgiveness, and release patterns of self-sabotage.
Why lotus?
Overall, the lotus flower is a powerful symbol that inspires individuals to embrace their own personal transformation and to rise above their limitations, just as the lotus rises above the muddy waters to bloom into a beautiful flower.
Used as an ancient symbol that has deep spiritual significance in many cultures and religions. Its symbolism is derived from its unique life cycle and the way it grows. The lotus begins its life in muddy and murky water, but despite the unfavorable conditions, it emerges as a beautiful and pristine flower. Therefore it represents purity, resilience and strength as this special flower is a symbol of spiritual enlightenment, and rebirth.
Why Elle?
I really got inspired by our friendship, depth and growth that came with it. She really helped to see things differently. I really wanted to honour this special bond and decided to create a piece of jewelry that features a woman, inspired by Elle, seated inside a lotus flower with her eyes closed, serving as a powerful reminder to look inward and connect with our true selves.
How do you pick a jewellery piece in the morning?
I really believe jewellery carries emotions and energy. So before I get dressed I actually think about which piece of jewellery reflects how I feel that day. If I need a bit of help to strengthen myself with the “ elle” necklace, or want to wear a ring from my grandmother which makes me think of her. There is no other possessions that is able to achieve this special connection between people.
